cheap thrill: glitter nail polish at American Apparel

Light Year / Supernova / Meteor Shower
$6 each at American Apparel

I have mixed feelings about shopping at American Apparel, but I couldn't resist snagging a few bottles of their new glitter nail polish while I was out running errands this past Sunday.  Supernova is my personal favorite.  Check it out below on one of American Apparel's models and then go get yourself a bottle.

weekend wish list

We moved into our new apartment at the end of October, but between Kevin's busy schedule and my habitual laziness, there is still quite a lot of furnishing, organizing, and decorating to be done. And even though I swear that I'm trying really hard to focus on shopping for holiday gifts, I'm continually getting distracted by things that I want to order for myself. Here are a few items that I came across recently and couldn't resist bookmarking for later:

           ikat mini bowl $8 ea.
           grecian goddess bust $24
           sleeping fox pillow $29
           dusted glass candleholder $24
           stoneware farmer's market basket $14
           monogrammed mugs $6 ea.

click, purchase, mine: Black Friday edition

It would have been prudent of me to spend Black Friday picking up Christmas gifts for Kevin's family, but come on -- I'm way too selfish for that. So I got a pedicure, grabbed Thai food with the little sister and the boy, resolved to start my Christmas shopping on Monday, and bought a few Chanukah gifts for myself instead.

the dessert problem

Traditionally, by the time I've made it through all of the turkey and stuffing, I barely have room left on Thanksgiving for dessert. I consider this to be a great tragedy, because let's be honest -- I'm a whore for desserts, especially baked goods. Here are three pumpkin dessert recipes that I'm itching to try out this weekend -- after I've come out of my inevitable Thanksgiving food coma, of course:

pumpkin whoopie pies with maple-marshmallow cream filling

pumpkin pie milkshakes

baked pumpkin and sour cream puddings

a little weekend reading

I'm completely and totally obsessed with Mindy Kaling's new book. What are you reading right now? Here's what's next on my list:

My Booky Wook by Russell Brand
The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (I know, I know, I'm ridiculously late to this party)

I've always had a soft spot for Marc by Marc Jacobs, but I'm more smitten than ever with the current handbag collection.  All available at Nordstrom.  YUM.

I'm pretty sure that I need this in every room of my apartment.
And probably at work.

cheap thrill: watches by May28th

I've been obsessing all morning over these watches by May28th. At only $39 apiece, I can totally justify getting two, right? Because I'm pretty sure that I need 11:56 am and 10:56 am. Immediately.

[late] weekend wish list

Zara's online store has officially launched, and I can't stop shopping. Is anyone else having trouble exercising self-control?

chop it off

My hair is in desperate need of a cut. DESPERATE. Between my horrendous split ends and severely overgrown layers, I've had no choice but to pull it back into a messy bun every single day for the past month. And trust me, it's not a chic messy bun that you might see on Carrie Bradshaw or at NYFW. It's the kind of bun that you'd see on someone who just spent several hours at the gym and didn't have time to shower before going home. It's not cute. So I've been scouring magazines and the internet, trying to find a style that's suitable for my face shape and hair type, and I think this cut might be the winner. Ever since I stumbled across the photo above, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. What do you guys think? Yay or nay?

Note: I know that it's extremely poor form to post an image without linking you to the original source, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where I grabbed this from. If anyone happens to know where I might have come across it, please let me know, and I'll update this post.

weekend wish list

The boy and I are moving to a new apartment in late October, and instead of focusing on practical tasks -- you know, like starting to pack up all my stuff -- I'm shopping.  WAY MORE FUN.  Here are a few items that I'd love to get for our new space:

1.  Limited Edition Gold POP Phone from Native Union to use with my iPhone and MacBook ($59.99)
2.  a stand for displaying my favorite statement necklaces (photograph from this post by Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere)
